Post Night Stay

Lilla Roberts Hotel $130.00 pp

At the time of booking, you will be asked what type of room you would like.

A double room has either one large bed or two smaller ones. Double rooms are perfect for couples or if you’re travelling with a companion and wish to share a room. There are plenty of double rooms available on our tours.

A single or solo room has only one bed and may be smaller in size. These rooms are first come, first-served, most properties have only a limited number of these rooms available.

A triple room usually consists of a standard double room with two beds. A cot or fold-up bed may be added, but it depends on the room size and local fire codes. Triples are first come, first-served, as they are also very limited. The number of persons accommodated does not dictate the room size. If you booked a triple and only a double and single room is available at a hotel, appropriate charges for the single and double accommodations will be assessed.

We will forward your request to the hotel and do our best to accommodate your needs; however, please know that we cannot make any guarantees.

Unique to this program is your 3-night stay at the Kakslauttanen Resort in Lapland. The first 2 nights, you stay in a Small Cabin equipped with 1 double bed, 1 bunk bed, a dining space, and 2 bathrooms. On the third night, you move to a Small Glass Igloo. The Glass Igloos will have a private toilet, shower and sauna facilities. Shower and sauna facilities are in a separate building close by. If you chose to upgrade to the Kelo Glass Igloo for your entire 3-night stay, accommodations include 2 double beds, a private sauna and a fireplace. Firewood for the fireplace needs to be purchased directly from the resort.

On every tour, we look to provide the highest quality accommodations in the best location. In certain countries, the hotel rooms may not be as large as standard hotel rooms in your home country.

Here are a few details to keep in mind:

Check in times are set by individual hotels and can vary, but most hotels offer afternoon check-ins. Depending on your arrival time, you may have to wait before you can get into your room.

Please observe check out times at all properties. Hotels designate these as well.

Some hotels require a credit card imprint or your passport information upon check in in order to activate telephones in the rooms and for potential incidental charges. Most hotels charge an access fee for using phones in hotel rooms. Please check with the front desk personnel at each hotel for specific policies. You will be responsible for all incidental fees occurred during your stay, and these must be paid at time of check out.

Hotel membership programs are not applicable.

Meals

The food people eat is a window into their history, traditions, and values, and sharing food brings people together. One of the many wonderful aspects of travel is to experience as much of the regional cuisine as possible. Your tour includes many meals as outlined on your itinerary. Our team has carefully chosen restaurants that feature local ingredients and offer regional flavours.

For meals that are not included in your itinerary, your Tour Manager will be happy to recommend eateries and local businesses that best fit your taste and needs.

The average price for meals in Finland ranges from 15 to 20 US Dollars for breakfast, 18 to 30 US Dollars for lunch and 28 to 50 US Dollars for dinner.

At Kakslauttanen Resort, a light lunch of soup will be available on the first day. Evening meals will be very representative of the local area and may include reindeer meat. Dietary requirements will be taken into account where possible, but please be reminded that due to the remoteness of the resort, what we consider ‘everyday’ foods may not be readily available.

Please let your Tour Manager know of any food allergies or dietary needs you may have at the beginning of your tour.

Special Diet

North America offers diverse dietary options due to ingredient availability and acceptance of alternative diets. However, travelling abroad may pose challenges as menus reflect local tastes, alternative diets may not be common, and medical conditions requiring dietary adjustments may not be understood. Group meals typically offer a pre-fixed menu that cater to diverse travellers. It’s important to note that while some dietary requests can be accommodated, options may be limited.

Pre & Post Night Stays

If your schedule allows, you may have selected to give yourself the advantage of an additional day or more in the starting or ending destination of your tour by booking a Pre-Night or Post-Night and arranging your flights accordingly. (Please note: A Tour Manager is not present during Pre-Night or Post-Night Stays.)

Important Notes

IDENTIFICATION Passports are required for this tour at your expense. Certain countries require that your passport be valid at least 6 months beyond the dates of your travel. You are strongly urged to contact the appropriate consulate for details. Visit www.travel.state.gov for the U.S. State Department for the latest details about passports and visa requirements. IMPORTANT: We recommend that travelers take a photocopy of their passport and applicable visas. It should be packed separately from your actual passport and visa. We also recommend leaving a copy at home with your emergency contact.

Single accommodations are limited and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Single rate subject to change based on availability.

The days and order of sightseeing may change to best utilize your time on tour.

Hotel check-in on your day of arrival is 3:00 p.m. Rooms may not be available prior to that time.

To complete your tour, we include roundtrip airport-to-hotel transfers when purchasing our airfare with your tour. If you have arranged for your own air, we are pleased to provide you the option of purchasing these transfers. Please note that all transfers will leave at pre-scheduled times.

Please be advised many airlines do not provide advance seat assignments until check-in at the airport. Advance seating will be subject to the airline’s terms and conditions.

Coaches which may not be lavatory equipped may be used on this tour. In this case, stops are made during travel periods.

*The northern lights are in the Northern Hemisphere from September through April and are only visible when the sky is clear and free of clouds. As this tour is weather dependent, sightings of the northern lights are not guaranteed.

Because the northern lights are a winter event, you will be walking and waiting outdoors while looking for them. It is recommended that you wear sturdy non-slip snow footwear and warm clothing including thermals, hat, scarf and gloves.

Outdoor activities and structures are weather dependent and may be unavailable or rescheduled. Outdoor activities in early November or April may vary depending on snowfall. If there is not enough snowfall, the husky safari will be substituted for a husky meet and greet and hike experience. The reindeer safari will be substituted with a horse drawn carriage northern lights search. The dog sledding activity requires you to be able to lower yourself into the sled.

***Glass igloos are equipped with only a private sink and toilet. A privacy curtain lines the base of the bedroom inside the igloo. Guests will have access to a public sauna house to use the shower in the morning. Overnights in igloos may be on the first night or last night at the Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort.

Travel with an average of 16 people (maximum of 24).

Effective for travel in May 2025, all visitors who do not need a visa to enter Europe will be expected to apply for an ETIAS visa waiver, for a fee, when visiting a Schengen Area Country. To identify Schengen Area Countries and to complete the ETIAS application, please visit https://www.etiasvisa.com/

The overall activity level of this tour is a level 3. This means you’re an on-the-go traveler. You don’t want to miss a thing, so walking and standing for longer periods of time (2-3 hours) isn’t a big deal. A moderately paced two-and-a-half-hour walking tour, covering several miles, hills, and uneven surfaces, is no problem for you. Walking four miles over the course of a day is very doable, as is climbing into and out of various modes of transportation (tuk-tuk, cable car, zodiac, etc.). You can climb three flights of stairs easily and handle altitudes between 6,000 and 9,000 feet. Expect some longer days with early mornings or late nights balanced with free time to recharge or set out on your own adventure. This level is not a fit for travelers who require mobility assistance devices.

Internal flights are required in order to participate on this tour and are included in the final price, quoted at time of booking.

**Finnish log cabins (small cabins) are equipped with 1 double bed, 1 bunk bed, a dining space, one bathroom (inclusive of sink, toilet and shower), private sauna and private fireplace (firewood not included).

Personal audio devices (headsets) are not included on this tour.

This tour is not wheelchair or stroller accessible due to Arctic terrain.

Travel Tips

Time Zone

Finland is 7 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time. In Finland, the days are much shorter in winter, especially the farther north you travel to areas such as Lapland. The fewer daylight hours mean more opportunities to experience the northern lights. Please keep in mind that as they are a natural phenomenon, sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Electricity

When traveling to another country, you may need an adaptor and/or electric converter to plug your electrical devices and appliances into the local power grid. An adaptor changes the plug so it fits into the outlet. A converter changes the voltage coming out of the outlet. To determine what you need, first verify if the plugs on your devices fit the outlet of your destination. In Europe, the plug type is C, which has two round pins. If your plugs do not match this description, you will need an adaptor. Next, verify the voltage of each device you intend to bring. You can find this information on the cord, plug, or on the device itself. Many devices are dual-voltage. For those, you do not need a converter. If your device is not dual-voltage and it differs from the voltage of your destination, you will need a voltage converter. In Europe, the voltage is 220v-230v. If necessary, make sure to get a converter that converts to this voltage. If you plan to bring a sleep apnea machine, please remember to bring an extension cord along with the adaptor and voltage converter as not all hotels have sockets next to the bed.

Elevation

The highest elevation encountered on this tour is 1100 feet.

Currency

Your personal bank card may work at local ATM machines in the destination you are travelling to and would dispense local currency. Please contact your bank to determine if this option is available, that your PIN number will be accepted, to inform them that you are travelling and to determine if any charges apply for each transaction. You may exchange your money at airports, banks, exchange bureaus, and at most hotels. In most cases, a commission charge will be assessed to exchange your money. At the hotel or in the city usually offer a better currency exchange rate than airports. ATM availability is limited when the group reaches Lapland. It is recommended that if travellers wish to use Euro cash during their time in Lapland, that you withdraw cash while in Helsinki in the downtown or at the airport. Credit cards are accepted at the resort for incidentals such as additional activities, snacks, souvenirs or beverages. We recommend carrying only a few major credit cards. Credit card purchases often provide an extra guarantee on your purchase (check with your specific credit card company for details and fees). It is advisable to contact any credit card company you intend utilizing while on tour before you depart to notify them where you will be travelling, to avoid any rejection of services. The currency of Finland is the Euro (€). It may be difficult to exchange cash in denominations higher than 30 CAD. If optional tours are made available to purchase, please note that credit cards must have an expiration date of greater than 30 days from the start of the tour.

Free Time Suggestions

Due to varied flight schedules and arrival times of our travellers, there are no scheduled activities prior to dinner on arrival day. Should your flight schedule allow for an early arrival, enjoy this opportunity for some independent exploration. With extra time to explore Helsinki, choose from an array of activities throughout the city to delve into its spirit and culture! Perhaps visit one of the numerous museums and churches in the city such as: Ateneum Art Museum, HAM (Helsinki Art Museum), Helsinki Cathedral or the Uspenski Orthodox Cathedral, the largest orthodox church in Western Europe. Venture to the Design District to browse the antiques shops, fashion stores, art galleries, restaurants and showrooms. Known for their fresh food, maybe wander Helsinki’s Market Square, the city’s most international and famous market, where they sell traditional foods and treats, as well as handicrafts and souvenirs. If you are staying post tour, your Tour Manager will be available to offer suggestions for your additional time in the area.

Get Ready

Get ready – you’re in for an adventure! As you look ahead to your tour, you’ll probably have some questions. Our team of travel experts assembled this booklet packed with answers so you can feel ready for your upcoming journey. Before you go, take time to review and get familiar with what to expect throughout your tour and keep this information on hand during your travels. On your small group Explorations tour, you’ll travel with a maximum of 24 people in your tour group. You’ll get to make the most of your trip by getting to know the people in your group as you explore the world together – fellow travellers can become fast friends. You’ll also be accompanied by your Tour Manager, an expert guide who can answer questions and offer advice along the way. This is an active, immersive journey designed to take you deeper into the destination with unique experiences and local connections alongside the must-sees.

Gratuity Recommendations

Tipping is a great way to show your appreciation for the people who help keep your tour running smoothly. Tipping is discretionary and should be on an individual basis. Gratuities for hotel housekeeping staff, local sightseeing guides, transfer drivers, on-tour motor coach drivers, and your Tour Manager are not included in the price of your tour. The suggestions below are provided in US Dollars to help you budget for your trip. Plan to convert the total US Dollar amounts into the equivalent local currency, which is generally the preferred option when giving. Tour Manager: equivalent of $12 US Dollars per person for each travel day, given at the end of your tour. For this 7-day tour, this would amount to $84 US Dollars total per person. Local Guide: equivalent of $2-3 US Dollars per person, given at the end of your day or time with them. There is 1 local guide on this tour. On-Tour Motor Coach Driver: equivalent of $7 US Dollars per person for each travel day, provided at the end of your tour or time with your driver. Hotel Housekeeping: equivalent of $1 US Dollar per day, per room, left each morning. Please reference the transfer information section for confirmation. If gratuities are not mentioned, the suggested amount is typically $3 US Dollars (or equivalent in local currency) per person.

Luggage Guidelines

Remember the 3-1-1 rule: Each airline passenger is allowed to bring 1 quart-sized bag containing no more than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) of any liquids, gels, and aerosols in their carry-on bag. Any liquids, including water bottles, that don’t fit in the one quart-sized bag or are larger than 3 ounces will be discarded by security. Common items that must comply with this rule include toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. Your day of departure is almost here, and it’s time to think about what to pack. We have a few guidelines to help you. But before you pack anything, you must check with your airline for any luggage fees or restrictions. These can vary widely depending on your carrier and destination. Let’s begin. The first thing to consider is how many bags to bring. Your tour package includes luggage handling for one checked bag per person. You will be responsible for your backpack or tote bag as you travel between destinations. It’s very important you keep this in mind. We have limited space on our buses, so limiting the bags ensures there’s room for everyone’s luggage. Your larger bag can’t be more than 62in/157cm in length, height and width and cannot weigh more than 50lb/23kg. Your carry-on should be a size that you can carry comfortably. You will use this bag to hold your personal items during sightseeing trips. Please note that if you bring more than one checked bag and one carry-on, we cannot guarantee there will be room for them on the bus. You’ll need to store or ship any additional luggage at your own expense. If there is room for your additional luggage, we will charge a fee of $00 CAD per bag per hotel. We recommend you consider using a TSA-approved lock, as a theft prevention measure during transit and during your tour. It’s also very important that all your bags be labeled clearly. In your packet you will find a luggage tag. Please attach it to the bag you plan to check. The name on this tag should match the information on your reservation exactly, so the Tour Manager and all baggage handlers can properly identify the bag as yours. This will ensure the bag is delivered to you quickly and efficiently.

Finally, we recommend you purchase travel insurance to ensure peace of mind while you’re on tour. We cannot assume liability or accept claims for loss or damage to luggage and personal effects due to breakage, theft or normal wear and tear that results from hotel, airline and group carrier handling. But we offer comprehensive “No Worries Travel Protection” for your convenience. With insurance, you’ll be able to focus on creating wonderful memories, not worrying about your luggage.

Please note, some attractions do not allow large backpacks into their sites, so you may need a smaller bag for sightseeing.

Included in your tour documents bundle is your personalised name tag. We ask that you put this on before your first gathered event and wear it throughout your tour. This helps your fellow travellers get to know you and for your Tour Manager to better identify you in large groups.

On-Tour Transportation

Your comfort is important to us. With that in mind, we charter coaches that are temperature-controlled. While some coaches may have a toilet facility, it is for emergency use since local laws require the vehicle to stop for safety reasons. Rest assured that frequent stops will be made along the touring route for your comfort and convenience. Please note, outlets for charging devices may not be available on the coach. Therefore, if you anticipate using electronic devices, we recommend bringing portable power banks. Change your seat, change your view! At least once a day, the Tour Manager will ask all travellers to change seats. This ensures that every traveller has an opportunity to enjoy a variety of views as they travel and a chance to get to know each other better. Depending on availability, single passengers may be seated next to another traveller. In fairness to all, there will be no exceptions to this policy.

Packing Tips

As you’re deciding what to bring on your trip to Finland, we have a few suggestions for you. For this tour, casual clothing is appropriate. Khakis, slacks, polo shirts and fleece tops are all appropriate. Think layers. The weather can vary, and it’s much easier to maintain a level of comfort if you can add or remove a layer at a time. We recommend silk-weight long underwear and tops as well as a jacket or sweater. Fleece or wool is best. Stay away from cotton sweaters or jackets, as they won’t keep you warm if they get wet. We recommend wind and waterproof outerwear, too, such as a GORE TEX® jacket or something similar. Comfortable footwear is crucial. Make sure you bring a pair of shoes that fit well and give you the necessary support. We recommend rubber-soled shoes as they work best over uneven terrain. If you decide to purchase new shoes for your trip, we suggest you wear them a number of times before you leave to break them in. Your feet will thank you.

Be prepared for all types of weather. For sunny weather, pack sunscreen, a hat or a bandana/scarf to protect your neck from sunburn. For the cold, pack a hat, gloves, and scarf. Temperatures can reach below minus so ensure your extremities are well-covered. Don’t forget your bathing suit! Many of the hotels you will be staying at have pools. At the Kakslauttanen Resort, they will provide all the gear you need for the outdoor activities, including a thermal jumpsuit, winter boots, gloves, and a hat. But we recommend you bring light ski pants and crampons or micro spikes for your personal use. For your toiletries, pack anything that could leak in plastic bags or a waterproof case. And you might want to bring a washcloth or two. Not all hotels provide them. If you take prescription medication, make sure to bring enough for your entire tour plus a few additional days in the original prescription containers. Medication should be packed in your carry-on bag, never your checked luggage; this is in case your luggage gets delayed. You don’t want to be without your medication. You could also bring extra medication in a separate bag in case any gets lost. In general, we recommend you don’t pack anything of value in your checked bag. You’ll want to take pictures of everything, so make sure to bring a camera as well as extra memory cards and batteries for your entire trip. If you decide to bring a video camera, don’t forget an extra battery for it plus a charger. Be sure to pack chargers and cords for all your electronic equipment. It’s also a good idea to bring a travel alarm clock, a travel sewing kit, a portable scale to weigh luggage, and some hand sanitizer for when soap and water aren’t readily available. If you are travelling with a companion, we suggest dividing the contents of your suitcase with them, that way if one bag is delayed, some of your belongings are still available to you both. If that is not an option for you, you could put a change of clothing in your carry-on if there’s room. That will give you something to wear if your checked luggage is delayed. Last but certainly not least, leave room! You’ll need it to fit all the souvenirs you want to bring home.

Planning for Specialized Needs

We will make reasonable efforts to accommodate the special needs of our travellers. However, if you require individual assistance you must be accompanied by a companion who is capable of, and totally responsible for, providing the necessary assistance. Neither our personnel nor the personnel of our destination partners may physically lift or assist clients onto transportation vehicles at any time while on tour. We regret that we cannot provide individual assistance to a traveller who has special mobility or other like needs.

FAQs

Buckle up, buttercups! Ready for a Lapland adventure? You’ve got questions, I’ve got answers!

Winter Wonderland Woes?

Q: How cold IS it?
A: Think polar bear popsicles! Seriously though, it depends on where and when. December to February? Expect -16°C to -3°C, but -30°C is possible! Pack accordingly (think thermal underwear, not bikinis!).

Q: Is it dark ALL DAY?
A: Near the Arctic Circle, the sun takes a long nap around December 21st. Further south, it peeks out for a bit each day. Think of it as a really long twilight—perfect for Northern Lights hunting!

Q: Snow much snow?
A: A LOT. Like, seriously, a lot. We’re talking up to 2 meters in some places! Bring your snow boots and your sense of humor.

Q: When do the lakes freeze over?
A: It varies, but Inari (Lapland’s biggest lake) typically freezes in November and thaws in early June. Southern lakes are later, obviously.

Other Lapland Lowdowns:

Q: Is it eco-friendly to visit?
A: Finland takes environmentalism seriously. Tons of Lapland is protected wilderness, and eco-tourism is a big deal. Choose responsible tours and operators, and you’ll be doing your part to keep Lapland lovely.

Q: Northern Lights—when and where?
A: Late August to April, under dark, clear skies. Consider a Northern Lights tour for the best chances of seeing the show!

Q: Reindeer sightings?
A: There are more reindeer than people! You’ll probably see them—especially if you book a reindeer ride.

Q: Driving in Lapland?
A: Summer? Pure daylight! Watch out for reindeer crossing the road! Winter? Snow tires are mandatory (November 1st to March 31st).

Q: Dangerous animals?
A: Relax! The animals are more afraid of you than you are of them. Keep your distance.

Q: Drones?
A: Absolutely!

Q: Visa needed?
A: Check your nationality, but most visitors don’t need one.

So there you have it! Now go book your trip! I’m ready for our Lapland adventure!
